Bone marrow transplant saves 6-year-old's life
SACRAMENTO -- Tony Bierwirth was diagnosed at 7 months old with a rare blood disease. Once at death's door, he is now a healthy, happy, rambunctious six-year-old.
To save Tony, bone marrow registry drives were held all over Sacramento. He received countless blood transfusions as the search continued.
Finally, Tony received a bone marrow transplant from a generous stranger when he was just over two years old.
Tony met his marrow donor, Eric Laub, who is from Pennsylvania on January 5, 2012.
