Ammonia tanker springs leak at Roseville railyard
ROSEVILLE, CA - Two weeks after a propane tanker caught fire and prompted a citywide evacuation, another incident involving a railcar called for a response from firefighters Thursday morning -- this time in Roseville.
Assistant Chief of the Roseville Fire Department, Jeff Carman, said crews responded to a report from Union Pacific workers of a small ammonia leak at the at the JR Davis Railyard in Roseville, CA around 2 a.m.
Carman said firefighters arriving on scene determined the release was caused by a faulty gasket and they had the parts to repair the component.
According to Carman, the leak was small and would not require evacuations, but citizens downwind from the leak would possibly smell ammonia.
