Meet Tilly a therapy dog at Sutter Roseville

Meet Tilly a therapy dog at Sutter Roseville

Tilly, a big shaggy black Newfoundland dog, ambles into Sutter Roseville Medical Center by the side of her owner and handler, Sherri Smith. The two are visiting patients in the medical center to bring some comfort and happiness to an otherwise routine medical stay.

The program is a new service within Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s Auxiliary Volunteer Services. Tilly and Sherri became members of the hospital Auxiliary in order to participate in the pet therapy program.

Five year old Tilly, who is friendly and calm, fits the criteria for a therapy dog as she does very well in strange settings.  Even so, she had to undergo training to be a therapy dog and afterward had to pass a test for certification.

Tilly began visiting patients three years ago at Ohio State University Medical Center where she was the first dog to visit patients in the medical center’s burn unit.

Rocklin cosmetic surgeon charged with felonies wants his license back

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Rocklin cosmetic surgeon charged with maliciously disfiguring 15 patients is trying to overturn the emergency suspension of his medical license.

Dr. Efrain Gonzalez has filed a lawsuit in Sacramento Superior Court challenging last month's interim suspension order by the Medical Board of California.

Among Gonzalez' claims is the Medical Board bowed to public pressure generated by the media and orchestrated by personal injury attorneys representing patients allegedly harmed by him.

In the lawsuit, Gonzalez claims the interim suspension order was inappropriate because the Medical Board could not show that allowing him to continue practicing medicine would endanger the public because no alleged victims have been identified since last August.

In a criminal complaint filed April 19, the Placer County district attorney charged Gonzalez with 15 felony counts of mayhem and 16 felony counts of grand theft.
