5 teens suspected in beating of elderly man

ROSEVILLE, CA - A 79-year-old Roseville man was taken to the hospital Tuesday after being assaulted by five youths in front of his home on the 900 block of Douglas Boulevard, say police.

Dee Dee Gunther of the Roseville Police Dept. said the man went outside of his home around 12:26 a.m. to ask a group of noisy kids to move along, when the youths charged him, knocked him down and began hitting and kicking him.

Don Viescas, Sr.'s son was working on his truck, just a few feet away, and witnessed the attack.

"He just said keep it down, take it down the street, just take it somewhere else," the victim's son Don Viescas, Jr. said. "They were on my dad and they all got a punch in. They all got a kick in."

Couple accused of stealing from kids soccer club

ROSEVILLE, CA - A Carmichael married couple was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of embezzling $173,000 from a Roseville Youth Soccer organization.

Christopher L. Sanford and Heather Jo Sanford, both 40, were accused of embezzlement, grand theft and conspiracy, Roseville police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.

Heather Sanford was the treasurer for the soccer club from 2011 to 2012, during which time she is suspected of stealing money from the organization. Gunther said Sanford would write checks from the soccer club's account to her husband Christopher Sanford, who would then make cash withdrawals. Also, Heather Sanford allegedly used the organization's debit card to make personal purchases.

The organization reported Heather Sanford to the police in November. It took police nearly five months to investigate the Sanfords before they were arrested on Wednesday.

Both were booked into Placer County Jail on $173,000 bail.
