ROSEVILLE, CA - A high school student was arrested for having a gun on school campus Friday afternoon.

Jacob Rushing, 18, was found with an unloaded handgun and a magazine in his backpack on the Roseville High School campus around 1 p.m., Roseville police Lt. Maria Richardson said.

The officer was doing a routine campus patrol when he spotted Rushing and another student on campus. Richardson said the students were no supposed to be there because they went to another area high school.

The officer talked to the students and searched them. One student was found with marijuana; he was cited then released. Rushing was arrested and booked into Placer County Jail.

Richardson said officers don't believe the students had any intention to do anything on campus nor cause any harm to anyone.
