ELK GROVE, CA - An Elk Grove man was arrested Sunday night in connection with a fuel theft at a Roseville gas station occurring earlier the same day.
According to Dee Dee Gunther of the Roseville Police Department, Edward Anthony Valila, 27, was arrested at his Elk Grove home following a theft at the Shell gas station on the 1000 block of Douglas Blvd. sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning.
Sergeant Karl Dyer of the Roseville Police Department said Valila may have also been involved in three additional thefts at separate gas stations in September.
According to Dyer, a total of 1,153 gallons of fuel were stolen in the four incidents.
Representatives from Sunday's victimized gas station told police the pump was not malfunctioning and that they believe the thieves used some sort of device to alter the pump.
Police utilized surveillance cameras at the Shell station and additional information to identify Valila and a woman suspected of being his accomplice, said Dyer.
The woman, described as a white woman, with long black hair and a tattoo on her lower back, was not arrested, said Gunther.
