ROSEVILLE, CA - It's a small theater space at the other end of Vernon Street than Roseville's better known theaters, but RPA Studios has its share of local Elly Awards and many more Elly nominations as well.
For the next few weekends, the stage is taken over by a rollicking band of pirates in Gilbert and Sullivan's classic comedy operetta THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
The cast is made up of local high school and home-schooled students, college kids and adults and even one ex-submariner. Besides providing a mellifluous bass voice, Matt Donnelly also provided all the technical, sea faring details (and built the set to boot!).
This is the story of Frederick, a lad apprenticed by mistake to a band of pirates who is relieved to finally be free as he celebrates his 21st birthday. However, as it turns out, he was born in a leap year which means his 21st birthday is still quite aways off.
