Sheriff: Man threatened to kill Roseville principal
News

ROSEVILLE, CA - A Roseville middle school principal was threatened by a man who came on campus Thursday afternoon with what appeared to be a weapon, the Placer County Sheriff's Department reports.

The incident took place at Creekview Ranch Middle School at 8779 Cook Riolo Road just before 3:41 p.m. School was out for the day but there were still children on campus in after-school activities, said sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin. The school was placed on lockdown and no one was hurt.

Erwin said when the principal confronted the unauthorized man, the man pointed an object that he held like a handgun at the principal and said he was going to kill him.

Deputies searched and found the man, identified as Reiner Gae Poppenga, 61 in a nearby creek bed. Erwin said he fought with officers but was arrested and booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of making criminal threats and resisting arrest. Bail for Poppenga, who is homeless, was set at $25,000.
