Global Hawk support squadron deactivating at Beale AFB
News

MARYSVILLE, CA - A Global Hawk support unit at Beale Air Force Base will be deactivated Sept. 29 due to Pentagon budget cutbacks.

There are 80 full-time and 115 traditional Air Force reservists serving in the affected 13th Reconnaissance Squadron, according to a 940th Wing Public Affairs spokesperson Dana Lineback. They are pilots, maintenance personnel and sensor operators.

The reservists have been sent to Libya, Africa and Guam in support of the 24/7 Global Hawk high-altitude reconnaissance mission which supplies real-time intelligence to combatant commanders around the world.

The 940th Wing pegged the economic value of the 13th Reconnaissance Squadron to the region at $11 million in the past fiscal year.

Lt. Col. Faustino Perez, maintenance officer with the squadron, said, "Beginning immediately, we'll be doing everything we can to help anyone affected by the deactivation locate vacant positions within the wing and in other units across the Reserve."
