Residents urge city to buy and preserve land with 400 oak trees

Saturday November 12th, from Noon to 3 p.m., there will be a demonstration to pressure the City of Rocklin to purchase a 9 acre commercially zoned parcel of land to preserve the 400 oak trees and use as a passive park.

The parcel is being offered by the bank that foreclosed on it and bids must be received by Nov. 16th.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase the land at an auction price of $695,000!

We expect dozens of citizens from neighbors to Sierra College students to protest the City of Rocklin's treatment of it's natural resources in their pro-development zeal!

Vandals target copper wire at Maidu Park

From the City of Roseville.

Roseville Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the theft of copper wire from the Maidu Regional Park soccer fields.  Sometime on the night of September 22 or the early morning of September 23, a thief removed the ground-level cement covers from the light poles and stripped the copper wire out of them, making the lights inoperable.  Roseville Park officials say it will take two to four weeks to make repairs.

Copper thieves have been active throughout the entire region, stripping copper wire from schools, parks and other public facilities.  Several parks and public facilities in Roseville have been hit this year, but this latest theft is the costliest yet.  Roseville Parks officials say it will cost $26,000 to repair the damage.  The theft also leaves the popular soccer fields in the dark for weeks during the height of the youth soccer season.

Granite Bay's Dream Baseball Field Now a Reality

Granite Bay's Dream Baseball Field Now a Reality

Lakeside Little Leaguers in Granite Bay can now walk onto a completely renovated baseball field thanks to Chevrolet, the Scotts Company and a local woman who entered the league into a national contest.

Coker-Ewing Field at Feist Park was formally dedicated during last week's ceremony after becoming one of five youth baseball fields in the country to be renovated with major-league quality materials through the “Building Diamonds and Dreams” contest sponsored by Chevrolet and the Scotts Company. Marie Kennedy of Granite Bay entered Lakeside Little League into the contest “for fun” when she came across it online.

The refurbishments focused on the aesthetics and playability of the field by providing major-league quality materials.

Roseville Galleria evacuated due to 'flash mob' crowd

Roseville Galleria evacuated due to 'flash mob' crowd

ROSEVILLE, CA - The Roseville Galleria mall was evacuated for precautionary reasons Monday night after about 5,000 people showed up for a "flash mob" inside the mall, according to a fire official.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. inside the mall when the huge crowd gathered to perform a spontaneous musical performance, said Roseville Fire Inspector Tom Dodaro. He said there were reports of the floor creaking near the food court due to the oversized gathering.

The entire building was evacuated as fire and police officials worked to determine if the structure was safe.

The group, organized by the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, said they were going to perform Handel's Hallejuah Chorus as a "random act of musical kindness" this holiday season.
