THE 13 BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP

THE 13 BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP

QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE MOST COMMON MISCONCEPTION ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

Question by: Scott

YOU NEED TO BE NICHE

“Entrepreneurs always worry about finding an incredible differentiation point so they can outwit and outsmart their competitors all the time. The fact is, a niche does not guarantee success and it won’t save your company from failure either. Businesses should be built if they will offer a valuable product or service at a reasonable price.”

One Book, One Community

One Book, One Community

The community that reads together, can grow together, and that's the goal of One Book, One Community.

This spring, residents can participate in Auburn's first ever One Book, One Community, a program that encourages everyone to read the same book and then participate in discussions and events about it.

This year's inaugural selection is "Nature Noir" by Jordan Fisher Smith. Smith is a retired state park ranger who patrolled the American River Canyon for 14 years. His book details his experiences trying to maintain land that was destined to be underwater. The American River Canyon in Auburn was set to become a lake once the Auburn Dam was constructed. Construction never happened and the land remains open to hikers, bicyclists, horse riders and more to this day.

New App Launches to Change Mobile Reading Experience

New App Launches to Change Mobile Reading Experience

For centuries, authors and readers have been separated. One wrote in private, while the other, often months or years later, read in private. Now, a new app has launched that harnesses the power of social media, giving authors and readers new functionality to engage with the content, other readers and the author. The Snippet app for iOS devices pays homage to another aspect of social media by adding a length constraint similar to Twitter.

The new platform allows authors to publish as many 1,000 word or less chapters to their Snippet, and utilize iOS multimedia tools for adding audio, video, photo slideshows and more. This shorter format makes Snippets both quick to read and quick to publish. The entire reading and publishing experience becomes social and connects the writer to the reader like never before, all within the mobile device.

Ten Favorite Scenes Thank you so much for hosting a stop along the Midnight Dragonfly blog tour! With the third book in the series now on the shelves, I find myself feeling a bit nostalgic. When I set out to write the series (after a particularly vivid dream), I had no idea what the next few years would have in store for me.  All I knew was I had an idea I couldn’t stop thinking about: ... Conscious Capitalism: A New Book by our Co-Founder and Co-CEO, John Mackey

Kate Lowery

When you think about the word “conscious,” what words come to mind? Aware? Mindful? Awake? What about “capitalism?” Selfish? Greedy? Unethical? Unfortunately there are plenty of people out there who don’t have a very positive perception of business in general. But what happens when you combine the concept of consciousness with capitalism? John Mackey, Whole Foods Market®’s co-founder and co-CEO, along with Raj Sisodia, a business professor at Bentley College, address that concept in their new book, Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business.
